- DataFlow improvement: support for newer authentication methods
- Marked legacy: Webview segments and web rectangles
Features
WeatherPresenter: Dual-DVI output
- Similar to Dual-SDI (introduced in Chyron Weather 2.2) the Dual-DVI feature allows users to split the WeatherPresenter’s output into two channels: Main playlist and virtual overlay.
- However the output can now be directed to two different DVI screens for preview or to capture and stream with 3rd party tools such as NDI Capture.
WeatherPresenter: Configurable shortcuts in edit mode
- Edit mode (operator interface) now has configurable shortcuts for actions and modes. User workflows can be significantly improved by e.g. switching from tool mode to selection mode using a shortcut.
- For example if a user draws an area the shortcut to switch from the tools mode to the selection mode enables changing the texture on the area without having to move the mouse....
- Besides undo and redo shortcuts can be defined to switch to geo, selection or tools mode as well as to access the tools history and the favorite tools. A shortcut can also be used to focus on the library and navigate through it.
WeatherPresenter: VirtualGlobe playlist
- As WeatherPresenter is used more and more in a virtual studio environment these use cases become more relevant. With Chyron Weather 2.3 WeatherPresenter introduces a new playlist option: Virtual Globe
- If the output from WeatherPresenter (Globe) is used on a 3D object (sphere) certain properties have to be used/locked so that the illusion is not spoiled. The VirtualGlobe playlist option supports the user in this.
- The user can create a Virtual Globe playlist:
- The globe is fixed to a full globe position (zoom) and the default camera (top down is selected)
- Properties that should not be changed - such as zoom and aspect ratio - are greyed out.
- However, should a user want to use the same playlist in a regular context a playlist can be reverted to a regular one in the playlist’s properties (a regular playlist cannot be converted to a Virtual Globe Playlist):
- Weather presenter Improvement: Playlist name automatically changed when “Save As”
When Weather presenter’s playlists were saved under a different name in the past the playlist name stayed the same and the user often forgot to change it. As the playlist name is used as default for rendering, recording and sharing this lead to confusion. With Chyron Weather 2.3 this was improved and the playlist name is now automatically updated when the playlist is saved under a different name (“Save As”). Of course the user can opt out and keep the existing name:
Panorama Bing Maps plugin: extended support for enterprise clients
- As Microsoft discontinued their free basic Bing Maps service in June 2025 the plugin was no longer usable. From Chyron Weather 2.3 the customers with an enterprise account for the Bing Maps service will be able to use it until the planned depreciation in June 2028.
DataFlow improvement: support for newer authentication methods
- DataFlow now supports additional authentication methods for MySQL ingestion. Libraries used for pushing point data to MySQL databases have been reworked so that additional authentication methods can be used.
Marked legacy: Webview segments and web rectangles
- The technology used for rendering Websites directly in WeatherPresenter has come to the end of its usefulness. As adoption of this feature has been low it has now been marked legacy and will be removed in the next version. Playlists with webview segments and templates with web rectangles can still be used with Chyron Weather 2.3, but no new elements can be added. The user is also warned about the depreciation in the next version. The feature will be fully retired with version 2.4.
Bug fixes
- BCWS-8782 Presenter playout device settings incorrectly map output display names (Dual DVI)
Known Issue: for Dual-DVI mode preview and playout devices are switched - BCWS-8747
Incorrect Grib File Types Crash Data Flow
Improvement: DataFlow no longer crashes when unexpected GRIB file is ingested - BCWS-9031 Video format of live recording does not match the format selected in Properties
Fix: Live recording now uses video format specified in settings - (BCWS-8988) FTP Upload Node Producing Errors
FIX: FTP upload node now handles .delete files properly - (BCWS-8313) Globe: Virtual-Globe playlist option: basic UI + locked properties
- Feature: WeatherPresenter has now a VirtualGlobe playlist option. If selected the playlist is optimized for full earth presentation to be used as a texture on a sphere in a virtual studio.
- Greyed out UI elements
- Ability to create VirtualGlobe playlists, indicate VG playlist and revert to normal mode
- (BCWS-8753) Dual DVI output
Feature: WeatherPresenter can now output main playlist and virtual overlay to two separate DVI screens (similar to the Dual-SDI feature introduced in ChyronWeather 2.2. This can be used e.g. to stream content using NDI capture. - (BCWS-8776) Add configurable shortcuts for editing modes and actions
Feature: Edit mode (operator interface) now has configurable shortcuts for actions and modes. User workflows can be significantly improved by e.g. switching from tool mode to selection mode using a shortcut. - (BCWS-8985) Disallow creating Web Rectangles and warn about deprecation
- (BCWS-9004) Disallow creating webview segments and warn about deprecation
- Notice: WebView and WebRectangles will be deprecated from Chyron Weather 2.4! From CW 2.3 no new WebView objects can be created and the user is warned about its deprecation.
- (BCWS-8935) DataFlow: update MySQL libraries to support newer authentication methods
Improvement: DataFlow now supports additional authentication methods for MySQL ingest.

2.2
Summary
- WeatherPresenter: Dual-SDI output
- WeatherPresenter: extended capabilities of WebRemote (restAPI)
- WeatherPresenter: New SDI output resoutions
- WeatherPresenter: Playlists now can have custom resolutions and aspect ratios
- Introducing FFMPEG for video encoding
- DataFlow: Enhanced configuration for Run Folder Pattern and Time-Step File Pattern in all Time-Referenced nodes
- Designer: Database Wizard now also works with PostGreSQL Databases
Features
WeatherPresenter: Dual-SDI output
WeatherPresenter's main timeline and the timeline of the virtual overlay can now be send to two seperate SDI channels (both fill). This could be used to composite the lower thirds on top of a camera feed outside of WeatherPresenter (for example in a virtual set).
As the virtual overlay needs to be keyed the background color can now be specified seperately for each playlist:
WeatherPresenter: extended capabilities of WebRemote (restAPI)
WeatherPresenter's restAPI has been extended to expose additional options. The purpose of this is to allow third party systems such as automation tools and virtual sets to use information from as well as control the WeatherPresenter playlist. Introduced was the ability to:
- get/set and set the current geofocus (camea position and zoom)
- query timing (duration and data time settings) for each segment
- get/set visibility of content collections per segment (set only while not in playout mode)
WeatherPresenter: New SDI output resolutions
- If the used Blackmagic Decklink card supports these formats WeatherPresenter can now also output in supports UHD, 4k DCI, and 2k DCI SDI output formats. The recommended Blackmagic Decklink card has been updated to Blackmagic Decklink 8K Pro G2.
WeatherPresenter: Playlists now can have custom resolutions
- WeatherPresenter playlists can now be built in custom resolutions an aspect ratios (including square and portrait). Screen-based content might have to be adjusted to place correctly on the new formats.
- Resolution and aspect ratios can be chosen from a dropdown list or typed in. The dropdown list can be specified per DesignModel.
If the playlist and output resolutions mismatch, new framing options have been introduced:
- stretch/scale
- contain (letter-box/pillar-box)
- cover/zoom
Additional output profiles can be created to render user aspect/resolution playlists.
Introducing FFMPEG for video encoding
- Starting from ChyronWeather 2.2, FFMPEG replaces all other video encoding libraries inside the product. This also includes the proprietary and outdated Mainconcept libraries (that required a separate license fee as well). The advantage is that ffmpeg can now be used to create a vast variety of output formats - especially when dealing with custom aspects and output resolutions.
DataFlow: Enhanced configuration for Run Folder Pattern and Time-Step File Pattern in all Time-Referenced nodes
- All Time-Referenced nodes in DataFlow can now have individual capture groups for year, month, day, hour, minute and second. This simplifies intake of files that do not match the recommended naming convention.
Designer: Database Wizard now also works with PostgreSQL Databases
- As in Chyron Weather 2.1 the ability to ingest into PostgreSQL databases was added, the logical next step was to also be able to read from there. Already supported was the use of MeteoValues (through a custom ini-file). With this version Designer's database wizard was updated to support also setting up queries interactively for PostgreSQL databases in a standard format (similar to the previously available MySQL and MS SQL databases).
