7.1 Overview
Axis supports the use of email aliases with the + symbol to allow a single user to maintain multiple unique Axis accounts — all linked to the same underlying email address.
This is a built-in feature designed for users who want to test different roles, separate projects, or access Axis in multiple contexts, without needing multiple real email addresses.
After successful authentication (via Axis username/password or an external Identity Provider such as Google, Okta, or Microsoft Entra ID), Axis checks if the authenticated email address is linked to multiple accounts.
7.2 How It Works
Most email providers (including Gmail, and many corporate domains) treat email addresses with + as aliases of the original address.
For example:
| Unique Axis Account | Real Email Inbox |
| tester+admin@chyron.com | tester@chyron.com |
| tester+user@chyron.com | tester@chyron.com |
| tester+reviewer@chyron.com | tester@chyron.com |
- From Axis’s perspective, each email is unique and treated as a separate user account.
- From Cognito’s and your email provider’s perspective, all verification and password reset emails are sent to tester@chyron.com.
7.3 When and Why to Use It
Using + email aliases can be especially helpful when you need to:
- Access Axis under different roles or organizations.
- Log in with different configurations without requiring multiple real email addresses.
- Keep all Axis-related email communication centralized in one inbox.
- Use SSO to log in via Google/Okta/Microsoft Entra ID and select from multiple accounts, such as tester@chyron.com, tester+user@chyron.com.
This provides both flexibility and simplicity, with no compromise on security.
7.4 Select Account Page
If your email address is linked to more than one Axis account, you will be redirected to the Choose Account page after authentication.
Each account entry shows:
- The account’s registered email address.
- The account holder’s name and organization (in parentheses).
Select the desired account to continue. Once selected, Axis creates a secure session and loads the dashboard for that account.
If you prefer to return to the login page instead of selecting an account, click the Back to login link displayed below the account list. This option allows you to choose a different login method (for example, another Identity Provider or a different email/password account).
7.5 Disabled User
A disabled user means that the user has been deactivated by an Axis administrator and can no longer access Axis through any login method.
If the disabled user attempts to log in:
- Email/Password login: Axis displays the message “User is disabled.”
- SSO (via external IdP): Authentication may complete successfully with the provider, but Axis will block access and display the same “User is disabled.” message
If the email address is linked to multiple Axis accounts (using the “+” alias feature), the disabled account still appears on the Choose Account page.
However:
- It is displayed at the bottom of the list,
- It appears grayed out,
- And it is marked with the label “Account Disabled”.
7.6 Important Notes
- Do not remove the part after + when logging into a specific user — the full alias is required (e.g., tester+user@chyron.com)
- Ensure your email provider supports + addressing (most major providers do).
- All emails (welcome email, reset my password email) will be delivered to the base email address (e.g., tester@chyron.com).
