Overview
Project Defaults is a unified configuration tool within the Styles Editor that centralizes default project behavior and settings. It defines the baseline configuration of a project at the time of its creation.
Project Defaults contains three primary configuration categories:
| Category | Controls |
| UI Defaults | Initial camera state: center point, zoom level, pitch, bearing. |
| Map Settings | Global map behavior: data localization language, distance units (km/miles), regional data limitations. |
| Output Formats | Default export configuration: supported resolutions, output types (PNG, video). |
UI Defaults
UI Defaults establish the baseline camera configuration for a new project. When a user creates a new map in the project, the map opens at this camera state.
| Setting | Description |
| Default center point | The geographic coordinate the map centers on when opened. |
| Default zoom level | The initial zoom level (0 = global, higher = more detailed). |
| Default pitch | The tilt angle of the map view (0 = flat top-down, higher = tilted perspective). |
| Default bearing | The rotation of the map (0 = north up). |
| Color presets | Default raise and polygon color palette for the project. |
| Regional data limitation | Restrict which geographic regions load by default to optimize performance. |
Note: UI Defaults define only the initial camera state for new maps. Existing maps retain their own saved states, and changes to UI Defaults do not affect previously created maps.
Map Settings (Work in Progress)
Map Settings define global project-level map behavior — how map data is interpreted and displayed across all maps in the project.
| Setting | Description |
| Data Localization | The language used for map labels (country names, city names, etc.). |
| Units | Distance units: kilometers or miles. Affects the zoom/distance indicator in the Map Editor. |
Output Formats
Output Formats define the default export configuration for the project, ensuring consistent output behavior across all maps.
| Setting | Description |
| Supported resolutions | The resolutions available when exporting maps |
| Output types | The export formats available |
Configuring Project Defaults
Project Defaults are configured in the Styles Editor by a designer or administrator:
- Open the Styles Editor.
- Click Project Defaults in the toolbar.
- Select the project you want to configure from the dropdown.
- Adjust UI Defaults, Map Settings, and Output Formats as required.
- Click Save. The new defaults apply to all new maps created in that project.
